  4.     Essayist Jesse Birnbaum stirred up some controversy with his
  5. April 24 piece "Aphrodite Was No Lady." We've received letters from
  6. ten readers complaining that the treatment of the fabled goddess
  7. and the examination of matters aphrodisiac were unfair. As one of
  8. the critics put it, "Aphrodite is the symbol of love; the making
  9. of blatantly sexist jokes at womankind's expense is an outrage."
